God the Covenant-Maker

If you have been tracking with us for the last few months you will know that January 2017 marked the beginning of our church’s journey through the storyline of Scripture. Sunday, January 8th was our first of 154 classes designed to bring us from Genesis 1 to Revelation 22 over the next four years!
So far our classes have brought us from the Beginning of the world (Gen. 1) to the wickedness of Babel (Gen. 11). All 154 lessons aim to show us that Jesus can be found on every page of Scripture; the Gospel is found in every book, chapter and verse.
The first unit of our study was called, “God the Creator.” This unit taught us about God and the goodness of His creation (Genesis 1:1 – 25), what it means to be created in God’s image (Genesis 1:26 – 2:25), and how sin entered the world (Genesis 3:1 – 24). The unit showed us how the Bible depicts the spread of sin (Genesis 4:1 – 16) and how God responded to the rebelliousness of humanity (Genesis 6:5 – 22). Last Sunday Pastor Sean brought us to the end of the first unit by taking us through Genesis 11:1 – 9 which showed us how God slows the spread of evil.
This coming Sunday (Feb. 19) we begin a new unit called, “God the Covenant-Maker.” This unit will unpack the main themes contained in Genesis 12 through 50. We will spend five lessons learning about the Patriarchs (Abraham, Isaac and Jacob). Two lessons will take us through how God used Joseph to preserve the covenant community. Each lesson in this unit will focus on God’s faithfulness to His covenant despite the rebellion and weakness of the covenant community.
We would love to have you join us for this new unit! Everyone is welcome to come and participate in these classes. We have age-appropriate classes for everyone (kids, teens, adults). If you missed the first unit, not a problem; we are happy to have you jump in at any time!
Families, gather in our church auditorium, for 9:30AM, to watch a 3-minute video on the lesson. Kids and youth will be brought to their respective classrooms for further teaching after the video; adults stay in the auditorium.
Please note that because we are at the end of a unit there is a memory verse due! If you are able, have these verses memorized for this coming Sunday…
“Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’ So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” ~ Genesis 1:26-27
Consider getting to church an hour early to participate in these vital classes. The more the merrier!
